Designing the Pose is a 5-day figure modeling intensive workshop with an emphasis on exploring the gesture in terms of composition, aesthetics, narrative, emotional content. Students will begin on day one with quick sketches in clay to explore various poses. At the end of Day 1 the group will discuss the poses and choose one to work on for the rest of the week. Working at a 24-inch scale in oil-based clay on a wire armature, I will guide students through a 3-stage process to realizing the figure in clay. The goal will be to prioritize gesture, proportion, and rhythm; and then realizing form and transition to complete the exercise.
