Our next set of weekly classes at JHess Studios in downtown San Francisco will begin on October 21st and run through December 15th of 2019. We offer a variety of classes in drawing, painting and sculpture.
In the sculpture department…
On Tuesday Evenings, I’ll be offering a new class: The Portrait in Bas-Relief. Students will work from life in oil based clay on a prepared wooden backdrop. The practice of bas-relief fosters a greater understanding of planes of the face, spatial relations, surface modeling, and the interplay between light and form. I’ll provide a casting demonstration toward the end of the class so that students may cast the piece at home if they choose to.
UPDATE: This class if full as of 10/3
On Saturday afternoons, I’ll be offering Figure Modeling/Long Pose, one of the core classes in our curriculum at JHess Studios. Students work from life in oil-based clay on a 28” flexible armature. The focus is on developing understanding of gesture, proportion, and form, as well as improving clay modeling skills.
