The ability to put together a human form from basic building blocks is an extremely important skill for a figurative artist. A great deal of my work is done from imagination and knowledge of the figure. Sketching figures from imagination allows me a greater degree of freedom in choosing poses and experimenting with composition. The understanding of the basic forms of the body is extremely useful when working from life as well- allowing the artist to understand and prioritize visual information more readily.
In this class students will work at a 18-inch scale constructing a figure in a neutral pose on the first day, and a more active pose on days 2 and 3. teaching methods will include lecture, discussion, demonstration and individual feedback. A live model will be used in demos when relevant to the discussion.
