Figure Modeling at Rome Art Workshops in Rome, Italy

In July of 2018, I'm pleased to be offering this exciting 2 week class in the heart of Rome, hosted by the Rome Art Workshops. The setting will offer us unparalleled examples of figurative sculpture to study from and experience.

In this two week Figure Modeling course, students will create a 1/3 scale standing figure in plastiline on a flexible armature, working from a live model. I'll share my sculptural process, focusing on establishing naturalistic proportions, and placing specific emphasis on gesture. As the project progresses, focus will shift to conceptualizing and modeling form and completing the surface.

Weekly Classes at Jhess Studios: Fall Session

Registration is now open for our Fall session of weekly classes at JHess Studios in downtown San Francisco.

In this session, I'll be offering Portrait Modeling on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 pm. Students work from life in small groups, creating a life size portrait study. The armature and clay are included in the tuition, so that students may take home the piece to fire or cast it independently.

On Saturday afternoons, I'll be offering our Figure Ecorche sculpture class, which will last for 3 full sessions, running through the end of March. We offer Figure Ecorche every other academic year. In this class, students will sculpt a skeleton in anatomical position and then apply muscles and other soft tissue structures individually to arrive at the human form. The armature and clay are included in the tuition.

UPDATES:

BOTH CLASSES are FULL as of 7/10. Please email me to be on the waiting list.

Face Off and Casting Demo at the PSoA Conference

In 2016, I joined the annual Face-Off demonstration at the Portrait Society of America's Annual conference, The Art of the Portrait. The Face-Off is an exciting event that kicks off the festivities every year at the conference. Artists work with portrait models in groups of 3-4, all in one large space where spectators can browse and watch the process up close and live.

This year I'm thrilled to be participating again. The following day, I'll cast my piece as an all-day demonstration in the vendor area of the conference. The events will take place in Atlanta, Georgia for 2017. The demo is open to all who attend the conference at no extra charge. If you're planning to attend, please stop by and say hello.
